Johnny Depp’s Amazing Career

This is one of those cases when people would tell you that you have been living under a rock if you don’t know who this actor is. There is no question that Johnny Depp’s career has been an amazing and memorable one. He started out in the business with the intention of becoming a musician and he dropped out of school when he was 15 to pursue that dream. One day he went to LA with his wife and was given advice by actor Nicolas Cage to become an actor instead of trying to pursue a music career. Soon after that he auditioned for a role in the Film Trashin in 1986 and he was casted as the lead by film director, but the film’s producer turned down Depp as the leading star and he was out of the project.

Then he was one of the victims of Freddy Krueger in the first film of this series called A Nightmare on Elm Street and played a small role in Platoon. Soon after that, he was offered a lead role in the FOX TV show 21 Jump Street. This show aired for the first time in 1987, but he quickly realized that he only wanted to do film if he was going to be involved in the entertainment industry with acting instead of music.

This was the moment when Johnny Depp’s amazing career truly began. His first film was Edward Scissor hands and this was also the first time that he would work with the director that he has been working with for the longest time. Tim Burton felt that he was the right guy for the role and they create a film that is now known as a cult classic. In 1993, he was in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape with Leonardo DiCaprio and then starred his second Tim Burton film in the leading role for the film Ed Wood.

He did Don Juan De Marco in 1995 and was in Donnie Brasco in 1997, but it was in 1998 that he played a character in the movie Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, which has also reached a cult status level. Then in 1999 he starred yet another Tim Burton film when he did Sleepy Hollow.

Another movie that Johnny Depp about a year after that was Chocolat, but then he prepared for a role as one of the most successful cocaine dealers in early 80’s and managed to live the life of a big shot millionaire until he was captured. Johnny Depp met with the man he was playing in order to get a better idea of the role that he was doing.

After that he starred in the Movie Pirates of the Caribbean and this was a huge success in 2003. He did the remake of the movie Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in 2005 and then went back to continue to Pirates of the Caribbean films. After that he did the musical Sweeney Todd in 2007 and Alice in Wonderland in 2010. He was the voice of the main character in the 3D animated film Rango in 2011 and then he proceeded to get back to do another Pirates of the Caribbean movie. After that he did The Rum Diary, Dark Shadows, The Lone Ranger, Transcendence, Into the Woods and Mortdecai. He is expected to do yet another Pirates of the Caribbean movie in 2017.

An interesting side note is that Johnny Depp joins the list of talented and very famous actors who have been nominated for an Oscar, but have never managed to win one. Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pit, Tom Cruise and Will Smith being on that list too.
